Trailer Control Box

Trailer control board built around an ATmega2560, the same microcontroller family used in the Arduino Mega, with five relay channels (15A and 30A rated) switching the lighting and electric brake loads, ACS712 current sensing, voltage and ground-sense monitoring, and a 7-way RV trailer connector interface. Built for AULFAB.

Engineering approach

Automotive and vehicle-adjacent hardware has to keep working through vibration, temperature swings, and electrically noisy environments that consumer electronics never see. On this board, that translates into a component set built around ATmega2560, 5x Relays, ACS712 Current Sensing and Ground Sense, with layout and stack-up decisions driven by vibration resistance, wide operating temperature range, and robust connector and harness interfacing.

From prototype to PCB

The original system was a prototype assembled from separate boards and modules connected by extensive wiring. This control PCB consolidates those functions onto a single board.
